Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon
The Ideal is a camera model initially designed by Huttig in 1908 and which continued its career through the various mergers of manufacturers, within Ica in 1909 and then within Zeiss Ikon.
Its manufacturing stopped in 1937.
This camera is a member of the family of interchangeable lens folding cameras, such as the Voigtlander Bergheil and the Certo Certotrop. Whereas the locking / unlocking systems of the Bergheil and of the Certotrop consisted of a kind of swivelling hook, that of this Ideal is a slat with a notch which is released by a simple pressure, a bit like the Contax rangefinders (and Kiev thereafter). Thus would the Ideal be at the origin of the Contax Zeiss Ikon bayonet locking system?
For the rest, it is a high-end camera of very good quality, in the Zeiss Ikon tradition.
The Ideal reference codes are linked to the negatives formats:
Model | Dimensions (cm) |
Ideal 250/3 | 6,5 x 9 |
Ideal 250/7 | 9 x 12 |
Ideal 250/9 | 10 x 15 |
Ideal 250/11 | 13 x 18 |
